What's New, What's Next: Jose Solis Betancourt
José Solís, Founder and President of Solís Betancourt Inc., has had a
life long interest in art and architecture. Growing up in San Juan,
Puerto Rico, he dedicated his spare time to drawing and painting. These
skills would serve him well as an architecture student at Cornell
University. He gained further experience at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill
and at The Saladino Group, Inc.
With an international client roster, Solís Betancourt, Inc. has accepted
numerous award-winning commissions and has created a signature
collection of lighting in collaboration with Holly Hunt Showrooms.
Solís Betancourt’s projects have been featured in national and
international shelter magazines including Architectural Digest, House &
Garden, House Beautiful, Southern Accents, The New York Times Magazine
and The Washington Post Magazine.

What's new, What's next for you?

What's your favorite rule to break?
I love changing the preconceived ideas about the dining room. Lower
the table, use comfortable chairs, and mix with benches. The table is
where you can enjoy the iPad, have drinks with friends, stock full with
books and magazines, and a table that transforms into an elegant setting
at night for dinner!
Best design tip you have learned?
Design is all about having a clear concept.
What is your favorite part of design?
My favorite part is the beginning--brain storming, creating, and studying all the possibilities.
Three luxury elements to include in interior design
Spa-like bathrooms, boutique-like closets, and comfortable seating everywhere
